Register Honored as 2011 Employee of the Year

Marie, Mark and Scarlett Register accept the 2011 Employee of the Year Award on behalf of the late David Register. (L-r) Bill Rimes, WFEC President & CEO, Marie Register, Mark Register, Scarlett Register and Ty Peel, Vice President, Engineering & Operations.
The late David Register was chosen as the 2011 West Florida Electric Employee of the Year by his co-workers. The award was accepted on his behalf by his family at the co-op’s annual Christmas party and awards banquet in early December. Register, a forty-two year veteran lineman who died in September 2011, was chosen for this honor because he best exemplified the following traits during his career: personality, punctuality, safety habits, team work, flexibility and performance on the job.
The plaque presented to the Register family read “2011 Employee of the Year, David Register. In memory of his untiring dedication, honesty, fairness and positive attitude. He exemplified these characteristics and set an example for his co-workers to follow.”
Register was a lifelong resident of Graceville who began working at the cooperative in 1969, at the age of nineteen. He started his career in the right-of-way department, eventually working his way up to lineman and line crew leader. A service man at the time of his death, David was a mentor, teacher, friend and role model to many of the younger linemen and was always there with a word of advice or encouragement.
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all David’s co-workers for honoring him with the 2011 Employee of the Year Award. It is easy to see why he loved you so. You were not only his co-workers, but his friends. We want everyone at West Florida Electric, including Bill Rimes, management and the Board of Directors to know you hold a special place in our hearts,” said the Register family upon receiving the award.
Trey Burrell was also recognized by his peers for his outstanding job performance during the past year. Burrell has worked in the cooperative’s fleet maintenance department as a mechanic since 2005. He enjoys racing cars, hunting, and spending time on the river. “I was very surprised to receive this honor from my co-workers and would like to thank them all for recognizing me,” said Burrell.
Other employees receiving outstanding service awards were: David Davis, Bonifay; Darrell Creel, Graceville and Theo Hobbs, Sneads. Many others were recognized for their years of service to the cooperative and perfect attendance. WFEC board members, Randy Bush and Eugene Alford were also recognized for their service to the cooperative as members of the board of trustees.
