Professional Energy Audits
An energy audit by West Florida Electrics Energy Advisor will include four major components:
1. Kilowatt-Hour (kWh) Usage Analysis - detailed history of a member's kWh usage will be printed, reviewed and compared to weather temperature data. Comparisons show if there is excessive use during heating/cooling periods. It also identifies a consumer's base load and if it is excessive. Base load is the amount of current used in a typical month that does not include heating or cooling (contributors to base load are typically; water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, cooking appliances, washers/dryers as well as small appliances and electronics used on a regular basis).
2. Home Audit - detailed audits are conducted to examine all the contributing factors to energy consumption. See the "Audit Survey Form" for details of the type of information that will be gathered during the audit.
3. Data Analysis - Information gathered from the audit is taken to the office to be reviewed. A computer analysis is run based on the information gathered during the audit - it contains:
A. Load Calculation - load calculation will determine if recommendations need to be made on the home's construction features like windows, doors, insulation, etc. Calculations will also assist in determining if the HVAC system is the most efficient size and type.
B. Appliance Calculation - The appliance calculator will estimate how many kilowatt-hours of electricity you should use based on the appliances in the home.
4. Consumer Report - A report of findings and recommendations will be sent to consumers and will include estimated savings.
